The Procedure for taking out Hungarian Citizenship

The Procedure for taking out Hungarian Citizenship
Over the years, the procedure for checking entitlement to Hungarian citizenship has become much more complex and can take many years, due to the fact that the laws for taking out citizenship have become much stricter and thus every application is scrupulously reviewed both in respect of the basic entitlement and of the nature of the documents establishing the entitlement.
Organizing the entitlement to Hungarian citizenship through the firm’s team of experts increases the chances of acquiring citizenship as well as dramatically reducing the procedure time.
Having the entitlement to Hungarian citizenship dealt with by someone who is not familiar with all the legal intricacies, is likely to impair the procedure for taking out citizenship in ways that cannot be remedied, even by experts in the field.

Who is entitled to Hungarian citizenship?
Track 1: An entitlement to Hungarian citizenship in accordance with a blood relationship without having any familiarity with the Hungarian language.
Hungarian citizenship is transmitted by virtue of consanguinity – which means that the person making the application must be a direct descendant of a Hungarian citizen. There is no requirement to waive Israeli citizenship in order to be granted Hungarian citizenship or to be familiar with Hungarian in order to arrange the granting of Hungarian citizenship.
Hungarian law makes a distinction between those born before and after 01.10.1957:
Anyone who applies for a certificate of Hungarian citizenship and who was born before 01.10.1957 must prove that his father (as opposed to his mother) was in possession of Hungarian citizenship and that such citizenship has not been renounced.
In addition, he may prove that his mother held Hungarian citizenship. In this event, Hungarian citizenship will be granted by the Hungarian President. But it will not be possible to transfer such citizenship to the applicant’s descendants who were born prior to the granting of Hungarian citizenship.
Alternately, an applicant for a certificate of Hungarian citizenship who was born after 1.10.1957 must prove that his father or his mother held Hungarian citizenship and that this citizenship has not been renounced. In such case, all the applicant’s descendants will be entitled to receive Hungarian citizenship.
In cases where the father is Hungarian by origin and the mother originates elsewhere, the origin of the applicant’s mother will be carefully scrutinized. And in many instances, in light of the various treaties between Hungary and Eastern European countries relating to dual nationality, the application for Hungarian citizenship will not be approved.
Track 2 – the entitlement to Hungarian citizenship by virtue of consanguinity subject to a familiarity with the Hungarian language.
Any applicant who does not comply with Track 1 and anyone who is a descendant of a person born in “Greater Hungary” (i.e. the area of Hungary immediately prior to the First World War which included Transylvania in Romania, Slovakia, the area of the Carpathians in Ukraine and part of the countries of the former Yugoslavia) and who has a medium familiarity with the Hungarian language., is entitled to be granted Hungarian citizenship. Children under the age of 14 are entitled to receive Hungarian citizenship if one of their parents has a medium familiarity with the Hungarian language.
All applications must be supported by appropriate documents establishing the entitlement to Hungarian citizenship. The firm deals, as required, with locating the relevant documents in Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine and Serbia.
Over the years, the firm has handled hundreds of applications for Hungarian citizenship where an intermediate familiarity with the Hungarian language is required, even for applicants who were not Hungarian speakers at the start of the process.
